Attendance Awards
Attendance Awards for perfect or nearly perfect (3 or less absences) are given at the end of the school year.
Honor Cards
Honor Cards are awarded to students in the third through fifth grades who earn all A's and B's. Awards are made at graduation.
Cougars Pride Award
Cougars Pride Award is announced each quarter at assembly and is awarded to the student body for working together as a school to exemplify the principles and values taught at Wheeling Country Day School.
President's Awards
President's Awards The Award for Academic Excellence is given at the Final Recognition Assembly to fourth and/or fifth-grade students who score above the 90th percentile in at least three academic subject areas on standardized testing and have maintained high honors during the entire school year. Students must receive recommendations from at least two teachers/staff and exhibit "high motivation, initiative, leadership, intellectual depth, and exceptional judgment."
Educational Achievement
The Award for Educational Achievement is given at the Final Recognition Assembly to fourth and/or fifth-grade students who score above the 80th percentile in at least three academic subject areas on standardized testing and have maintained high honors during the entire school year. Students must receive recommendations from at least two teachers/staff and exhibit "high motivation, initiative, leadership, intellectual depth, and exceptional judgment."
The Head of School Honor Roll
The Head of School Honor Roll This distinction is awarded to students in first through fifth grades who have regularly proven themselves to value learning, relish challenges and put forth consistent effort. In doing so, they serve as ambassadors of WCDS throughout our school and community.
The Janet Honecker Award
The Janet Honecker Award presents a savings bond to one student in the highest-grade level, for recognition of his or her outstanding performance in language classes and language arts. The student shall also have demonstrated the qualities of good citizenship within the Wheeling Country Day School community. Consideration may be given to scores on national, state, or local tests, classroom performance, and teacher recommendations. Students may be nominated by any faculty or staff member with the selection to be made by the Head of School. The award may be presented at the annual graduation ceremony, an honors assembly, or other appropriate event.
